Engagement in Public Life seminar

On Saturday 25th April 2009, the third CCF Engagement in Public Life seminar took place in London.  The CCF were delighted that over 100 people attended and many had travelled a considerable distance to do so.  There were people of all different ages, backgrounds and ethnicity present and lots of questions and enthusiasm about getting involved in public life.  The CCF hopes that the teaching will be disseminated across the church congregations of those who attended.

On the day Cllr Mary Douglas spoke very compellingly that she was inspired to get involved in the council as she felt that she could not sit there and watch society deteriorate.  There was also a wonderful “double act” from the Deputy Governor and the Head of Psychology at Wormwood Scrubbs.  Hopefully, many more people will get involved as prison visitors and on the Independent Monitoring Board as a result of their talk.

When one is organising an event, it is always hard to judge how it went, but having just spent a few minutes reading the feedback from attendees, I am rather staggered.  Please take a moment to read the comments below:

"I came in here a little curious, however, I am leaving here having been enlightened. Now I have a deep hunger for more. The journey has just begun.. Thanks a lot!"

Miss Abisoya Morafa

"Good speakers, powerful testimonies, highly motivational."

Mr Tim Stone

"It has been a wonderful day, challenging, thought-provoking and very encouraging."

Mr Mark Graves

This is the first seminar of three that we will seek to hold this year.  If you have any contacts in Merseyside do tell them of the seminar on June 6th at Liverpool Lighthouse.

Erewash Roadshow

On Thursday 16th April over 50 local Church leaders, councillors, and CCF members attended the CCF Roadshow in Erewash. It was the second roadshow in the series travelling the country to support Prospective Parliamentary Candidates and MPs, the most recent with PPC Jessica Lee.

The event, hosted by the CCF, was a tremendous success, with several people expressing an interest in supporting the CCF by becoming members. Those who attended heard from Jessica about how her faith motivates her to stand for Parliament, her love for the local area, and her desire to serve in public office.

CCF Deputy Director, Ian Lucas, said “It was a real pleasure to be able to support Jessica in her campaign to win the Erewash Parliamentary seat. She is a superb candidate and will make a first class MP.”
