Prayer meeting

On Monday 23rd February the CCF held its monthly prayer meeting in Portcullis House, Westminster.  The steadily growing group of 14 attended the evening to pray for the Conservative Party, the nation, and the Party leadership.  The CCF office is very excited and encouraged by this turn out and hope that it bodes well for attendance at the Annual Prayer Reception being held on Wednesday 25th March.

Ecumenical Service in Kingston

On Monday 23rd February the CCF Richmond, Twickenham and Kingston local group held an ecumenical service in a local church.   Elizabeth Berridge, CCF Executive Director, stepped in at the last minute to lead the intercessions, due to the illness of CCF Trustee Mark Lloyd Davies.   Elizabeth said “It is so encouraging to join with local CCF members who want to meet in their area.   I do hope that this model will be replicated around the country.   I had a wonderful time and many thanks to Graham, Margaret and Fr. Martin for all their hard work.  We were also very grateful to Zac Goldsmith who also led some prayers."

Elizabeth speaks at a Networking Breakfast in Tottenham

On Tuesday 17th February, Elizabeth Berridge spoke at a networking breakfast held for church leaders in Haringey.  The leaders were very keen to learn how to engage in the political process and how to encourage their congregations to do so.  Elizabeth said “Besides enjoying a wonderful cooked breakfast, it was a real privilege to meet local church leaders who are so busy spending themselves on behalf of their congregations and their communities.  I was encouraged by their desire to engage with the political process and their understanding of the need to be “salt” and “light” in the civic institutions of our nation."

Any Questions: on the economy?

On Monday 16th February, the CCF held the first event in a new series called, Any Questions?  The first question and answer session held at CCHQ, Westminster, was ‘on the economy’.  Due to illness, instead of having as advertised, Grame Leach leading the session, the guest speaker was Lord Griffiths.  Lord Griffiths is the Vice Chairman of Goldman Sachs International and an International Advisor to Goldman Sachs concerned with strategic issues in their UK, European and Asian operations and business development activities worldwide.

There were over 40 people present on the night.  One yet to be CCF member who attended contacted the office afterwards to say, “It was a fascinating talk and struck the right balance between politics, religion and economics.  Lord Griffiths explained the points in clear terms and answered the many questions expertly.”  The CCF is greatly indebted to Lord Griffiths for stepping in at the last minute.
