CCF Scotland hosted a breakfast fringe event, held jointly with CARE Not Killing (CNK), at the recent Scottish Conservative & Unionist Party Conference in Perth, on Friday 15th May. The theme of the fringe event was assisted suicide, specifically with relevance to the proposed End of Life Choices (Scotland) Bill being pursued in the Scottish Parliament by the independent MSP Margo MacDonald. The address was given by the former leader of the Scottish Conservatives, David McLetchie MSP, who outlined the case against assisted dying. The event was well attended by delegates and our thanks go to Mr McLetchie for taking the time to speak at the event.
The roadshow in North Devon, held on Friday 15th May, was an outstanding success, with almost 60 people attending. Ian Lucas, Deputy Director said, “It was a great privilege to go to Devon to support the Conservative Parliamentary candidate and CCF member Philip Milton, who has been running a superb campaign. We wanted to ensure that the local Christian community was aware that it is his faith that motivates him to be involved in politics”.
The CCF was also honoured to have former Chairman, Gary Streeter MP for South West Devon, as a guest speaker for the evening. He gave an outstanding speech discussing recent events and his own personal faith and motivation for being an MP. There followed a question and answer session which became a wide ranging discussion.
Philip Milton commented afterwards, “It was great to have such a good turnout and from a wide cross section of the North Devon Christian community. Some came from twenty-five miles away. I look forward to working more closely with the wider Church community as a result of this roadshow”.
On Wednesday 20th May the CCF held a roadshow in Sutton and Cheam, with PPC Philippa Stroud. The evening was a great opportunity to get together with senior Church leaders to discuss, in a private environment, issues affecting the local area, and most specifically what Philippa believes she can bring to the area, and how her faith motivates her to be involved in politics.
