Before
entering parliament in 2005, David worked as a solicitor for the Enfield
firm Shepherd Harris and Co, specialising in criminal law, and was an advocate
in police stations and Courts in Enfield, Haringey and Hertfordshire. In
1994, David was elected as the youngest councillor in the London Borough
of Enfield representing Trent Ward. During the next 8 years David held a
number of positions in the Conservative Group. He was elected as Member of
Parliament in May 2005. David is a member of the Public Administration Select
Committee and the Armed Forces Bill Select Committee. He is particularly
interested in the policy areas of the criminal justice system, drugs, family
policy and international human rights. David is married to Janet and has
five young children.
Caroline
Spelman is Chairman of the Conservative Party
but also a member of the CIF trustees. Caroline is a regular member of Knowle
parish church in the Birmingham diocese where she has been a Sunday school
teacher for a number of years but now her children are older prefers to work
with older youth groups and their outreach to the community. She has recently
taken up the cause of human trafficking by supporting Steve Chalke’s
stop the traffic campaign.
Mark
Lloyd Davies is Government Affairs Manager for Europe’s largest pharmaceutical
company sanofi-aventis. Previously, Mark was the Conservative Research Department
Health Policy Advisor (2004 to 2006). In addition to Health, Mark has interests
in climate change (PhD Glacial Geology, Universiteit van Amsterdam), post-modernism
and rugby where he serves as co-president of Egham Hollowegians RFC. Mark
worships at St Stephen’s Church, Twickenham and in his spare time enjoys
fine food and wine, rugby and the company of friends and family.
Ian is a local businessman in Eastbourne, a former director of The Eastbourne Garden Company. He is formerly Leader of Eastbourne Borough Council, representing the Old Town Ward until May 2007, and remains Deputy Chairman of Eastbourne Conservative Constituency Association (ECCA). Ian was the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate at the 2005 General Election in Walsall North, reducing the incumbent Labour MP's majority with a swing of 4.6%, which was the highest West Midlands swing on the day. Ian is married with 5 children.
Andrew
is the MP South West Bedfordshire and a shadow Work and Pensions Minister,
having previously been in the Whips' office and Parliamentary Private Secretary
to the Shadow Foreign Secretary. He was chairman of the Conservative Christian
Fellowship, before being asked to chair the all party Christians in Parliament
group. He has a particular interest in supporting strong families and marriages
to promote social cohesion and reduce poverty.
Robin is a councillor on Forest Heath District Council where he holds a variety of responsibilities in planning, economic development and licensing. In 2004 he founded a management consultancy with seven associates focussed on local government: www.millarconsulting.com. A lifelong Conservative, he is a governor of West Suffolk FE College, a Trustee of Relate (Norfolk & Suffolk), a former Deputy Chairman of West Suffolk Conservative Association and former Mayor of Newmarket. He is also project managing the construction of a 6,000 sq ft extension to his church. He is married to Bonny, a veterinary nurse.
Julie works as a Policy Advisor for the Association of Scottish Colleges and is a member of Charlotte Chapel in Edinburgh. She completed the CCF's Under 35s Development Programme in 2005/06 and will be co-leading the programme from the 2007/8 intake of participants. She has been involved in the 2005 General Election in Scotland and is a committed member of the the Scottish CCF group.
Guy
Hordern lives in Birmingham and is a single parent. He has been a City Councillor
and Youth Court Magistrate and is currently Chairman of the Birmingham Standing
Advisory Council for Religious Education. He is Chairman of Birmingham Conservatives
and he wants to see Birmingham (and other large Cities) flourish following
a Conservative renewal in Urban Local Government. He is an Anglican Lay Reader
and worships at his local Parish Church.
Lady
O'Cathain is an economist and in her early career worked for Aer Lingus,
Tarmac, Carrington Viyella and British Leyland. She was Head of the Milk
Marketing Board, MD of the Barbican Centre and Non-executive Director for
many blue-chip companies, including Midland Bank, Tesco, Sears, British Airways,
BET, BNP/Paribas and Thistle Hotels, She is currently a Non-executive Director
of South East Water.
An extremely active Member of the House of Lords since 1991, Lady O’Cathain’s interests include the economy, energy and Northern Ireland issues as well as social issues which have an impact on the family and our Christian way of life. She led the opposition to the Adoption & Children Act 2002, the Gender Recognition Act, as well as the Civil Partnership and Equality Acts. She was a key member of the opposition to The Incitement to Racial and Religious Hatred Act and Assisted Dying for the Terminally Ill Bill 2006.
As
well as being a wife and mother to a small child, Helen is also a chartered
accountant and Councillor for the London Borough of Sutton, representing
Worcester Park. The family belong to a local Anglican church where Helen
helps with worship by playing the organ. She can also be found on occasion
at the local prison playing for their Sunday morning service. Helen is also
an Alpha adviser on running Alpha in the Workplace courses.
Alastair McIver is Director of Communications for Interserve, a missions charity which places people in areas of need in Asia, the Middle East and the Arab World. Previously, he was editor of Tennis World magazine for 15 years and worked in tennis products for five years. He lives in Hertfordshire with his wife, Sally, and children Jessica and Carys. He is on the leadership team of his local Baptist church. He enjoys tennis, running, reading, writing and politics.
Simi Adedeji is a Housing Consultant and sits as a Magistrate on the Luton and South Bedfordshire Bench. She is an LEA School Governor at the William Austin School, and a Trustee of the Luton Community Housing Association.
Simi is married to Reverend Yemi Adedeji and they are blessed with three daughters.
A member of Jesus House, one of the largest Black Majority Churches in England, Simi is actively involved in encouraging more Black and Ethnic Minority involvement in the Conservative Party
Elizabeth
was a Personal Injury Barrister in Manchester before taking becoming CCF
Director. She was the Parliamentary Candidate for Stockport in the 2005 General
Election. Since arriving in London she has become a Trustee of “Kainos,” a
Christian charity working in Prisons. She worships at St Michaels, Chester
Square.
